Caoilfhionn Gallagher QC and Jennifer Robinson represent the BBC World Service in UN engagement in relation to the persecution of BBC Persian staff by Iran.
On Monday 9 March, Rana Rahimpour, lead presenter for BBC Persian, addressed the UN Human Rights Council to raise the escalation of harassment towards BBC Persian staff after their reporting on the crackdown by authorities on protests in November 2019, including the death threats she had received in London. In response, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran, Professor Javaid Rehman, condemned the harassment of journalists, raising particular concern with the threats against BBC Persian.
